Florida Keys and Everglades National Park

My husband and I traveled to the Florida Keys and Everglades National Park about 6 years ago. We rented a really great condo on Islamorada Key. The living room windows looked out over the Atlantic Ocean and the back patio was facing one of the sloughs leading to the Gulf of Mexico.

We drove through the Keys and enjoyed the food and scenery. By far the most interesting place we visited was Everglades National Park. There were so many guided trails with various birds and other wildlife in abundance. The alliagators were awsome! They were all around sunning themselves near the trail, in the water and checking us out! There were numerous bayous with banyon trees everywhere.

Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area - Green River

We took several vacations to Flaming Gorge Reservior and the Green River to float the river and fly fish. The scenery while floating down the river was gorgeous and the fish were numerous. The river runs through a canyon of red rock and the float is tricky, running through boulders and rapids which have dubious names like mother-in-law, and roller coaster. Needless to say, it sure can be exciting!

As much as I enjoyed the Green River, it was on a sightseeing trip down the mountain to Vernal, Utah, that we discovered a ranch that had a hidden treasure of petroglyphs. It was an out-of-the-way place which is designated as a historic sight, but only had a small building where you signed in and led your own tour. There were so many different levels of petroglyphs, which were all different. The ones pictured are called the 3 Kings and are about 30 feet tall. There were many more of different shapes and sizes and rickety ladders which reached from one level to the next. There are many other sites close by which have pictogryphs, ancient Indian camp sites and an active dinasauer dig site. See the chart below with a few of these sites and links to gain information.
