About Seeking a California Real Estate Salesperson's License:

West Valley College offers the Real Estate Salesperson Certificate to individuals seeking a Real Estate Salesperson license. We have designed this Certificate to match the requirements of the California Department of Real Estate (DRE). The DRE requires that an individual take three real estate-oriented classes before obtaining a renewable real estate salesperson's license. A salesperson's license is necessary in California for a person to be able to buy or sell real estate on another’s behalf.

Required Courses:

West Valley College now offers all of the required courses that a student would need to take in order to obtain a salesperson’s license. In order to obtain the Certificate (and qualify to take the Real Estate Salesperson exam) an individual must take the following two classes:
  • Principles of Real Estate (classroom or online)
  • Real Estate Practices (classroom or online)
Additionally, it is necessary to take one of the following courses:
  • Real Estate Appraisal Principles and Procedures (classroom or online)
  • Real Estate Economics (classroom or online)
  • Real Estate Finance (classroom or online)
  • Real Estate Investment (online only)
  • Legal Aspects of Real Estate (classroom only)
  • Property Management (classroom or online)
  • Business Law (classroom or online)
When a student takes the two required classes and one of the electives, the student will earn the Certificate and will be elgible to take the Real Estate Salesperson exam. The DRE will allow the student to take the exam upon showing completion of the required coursework.
