West Valley College in Saratoga offers a variety of real estate courses to those seeking to obtain a California Real Estate Salesperson license, a Real Estate Broker's license, or a Real
Estate Appraiser license.

About Seeking a California Real Estate Salesperson's License:
West Valley College offers the Real Estate Salesperson Certificate to individuals seeking a Real Estate Salesperson license. We have designed this Certificate to match the requirements of the California
Department of Real Estate (DRE). The DRE requires that an individual take three real estate-oriented classes before obtaining a renewable real estate salesperson's license. A salesperson's license is necessary in California for a person to be able to buy or sell real estate on another’s behalf.
Required Courses:
West Valley College now offers all of the required courses that a student would need to take in order to obtain a salesperson’s license. In order to obtain the Certificate (and qualify to take the Real Estate Salesperson exam) an individual must take the following two classes:
- Principles of Real Estate (classroom or online)
- Real Estate Practices (classroom or online)
Additionally, it is necessary to take one of the following courses:
- Real Estate Appraisal Principles and Procedures (classroom or online)
- Real Estate Economics (classroom or online)
- Real Estate Finance (classroom or online)
- Real Estate Investment (online only)
- Legal Aspects of Real Estate (classroom only)
- Property Management (classroom or online)
- Business Law (classroom or online)
When a student takes the two required classes and one of the electives, the student will earn the Certificate and will be elgible to take the Real Estate Salesperson exam. The DRE will allow the student to take the exam upon showing completion of the required coursework.
About Seeking a California Real Estate Broker License:
Individuals seeking a California Real Estate Broker license must have successfully completed the following five state-required courses, all of which are offered at West Valley College:
- Real Estate Practices (classroom or online)
- Legal Aspects of Real Estate (classroom only)
- Real Estate Finance (classroom or online)
- Real Estate Appraisal Principles and Procedures (classroom or online)
- Real Estate Economics (classroom or online)
Broker license applicants must also successfully complete three additional courses. The follow-ing classes meet this additional educational requirement, and all of these courses are offered at West Valley College:
- Real Estate Principles (classroom or online)
- Business Law (classroom or online)
- Property Management (classroom or online)
- Real Estate Investment (online only)
West Valley's Real Estate courses are offered on weeknights and online. West Valley College is one of the few community colleges in California that offers Real Estate courses in an online format. Our classes are designed to help working professionals attain their educational objectives without disrupting their professional careers.
